I also have to hide creation date, it is nifty to have creation date as well as last updated when you add pages over time.
But now I am transferring all pages into Joomla and they will all go live the same day, and Iwill be working for several weeks with this so the pages will not even have the same date when the Joomla site goes live. And some of the material is very obviously of a much earlier date than now so it will just be very confusing.

For now I will try to remember to do this manually, will not look into changing default settings or default template for articles just yet.

It is possible to add a photo into the article and not have it show up in the editor, not that I am sure why you would want that.

First I tried to click the image icon at the top of the editor. That probably works fine, but your can’t browse you way to the photo, you have to type in the URL.
Not what I wanted. But at the bottom of the editor (and of course you have to scroll down just to see it) is a button called Image.
Now you can browse, but it took me awhile to realise that this does not look in the directory in Joomla called images, it goes to images/stories.
And that was of course not where I had put my photos Uploading photos again…

Joomla does a decent job in positioning the photos and letting the text flow around them, but it is by no means perfect.
And there is no option to choose a border or set the size and of a border.
I guess you can do that in CSS in the template that you choose.

I haven’t gotten that far yet, I am still working in the standard template provided with the installation and also still have all the example stuff included.

Oh, just discovered that update time and date is automatically shown at the bottom of the page!

If I have Skype activated, it automatically tries to be intelligent and put a Skype symbol next to peoples names when those people are in the list of my Skype contacts.
Unfortunately the HTML for this Skype icon is included in my pasted text so I must remember to quit Skype every time I work with pasting from the old site into Joomla.
How extremely annoying!

Joomla is a a content management system (CMS). To set it up you need things like MySQL databases and PHP. Things I know nothing about.
So I set out to find a webhost that offers automatic installation of Joomla. My choice fell on Hostgator. I know them from before. Hostgator works and works well. Not to mention that their support with live chat rocks! You always get the help you need and in a most timely fashion.

This is what I’ve learned so far today:

• You create ”articles” in Joomla, they contain the content you want to display. Since you can’t just produce a lot of articles and kind of pour them into one big bucket, you have to organize them somehow.
• This is where ”sections” and ”categories” comes in.

Now I know I how to create a section, a category and a new article.  I also learned that in order to delete a section, you must first delete or disconnect it from the categories that belongs to that section. To delete categories you must first delete or disconnect the articles belonging to that category. And don’t think you can just delete, it just goes into the Trash and then I had to figure out how to actually empty the Trash

I have old sites that needs makeovers. I found a page about converting an existing website into Joomla, and that is where I started.

Inserting links to files on and off site is not that difficult. But how to figure out to link to another article…
The previous link says to view the article in Joomla and email it to yourself, the email will contain the link to that article.
I hope there is a better way to do it but it will have to work for now.

To make matters worse, I can’t test these links. The site I am trying to convert into Joomla is alive online.
My new account with Hostgator has the same domain name, but it is not alive, you can’t see it yet by using the domain name.
So the links I am given is to unofficial pages where I have to login (and you can’t…) to see them.

What I do is to trust in fate, I just exchange that part of the URL and put in the real domain name instead.
I hope it will work, can’t test it until the new site is ready and alive online…

Nu har i alla fall bemanningsföretaget Worktown startat här i Finspång.
Idén är väl om jag förstått rätt i första hand att ge ungdomar möjlighet till extraförjänst.
